Before diving into the world of Feng Shui remedies, it is essential to understand the Cycle of the 5 Elements (Wu Xing) , the very basis of this ancestral art.

These five elements – Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood – interact in complex cycles that influence the energies of our living spaces.

The cycles of the 5 Elements: Support, Weakening and Destruction

Cycle of production of the 5 elements in Feng Shui
Cycle of production of the 5 element

  1. Production cycle (positive cycle) :

    • Fire nourishes the Earth (ashes fertilize the soil).

    • The Earth produces Metal (deposits come from the ground).

    • Metal nourishes Water (minerals dissolved in water).

    • Water nourishes Wood (plants absorb water).

    • Wood feeds Fire (it fuels the flames).

This cycle creates a harmonious balance between energies.

  1. Weakening cycle :

An excess of one element can deplete another. For example, too much Wood can dry up Water, or too much Earth can smother Fire, etc.

  2. Destruction cycle :

Here, the elements oppose each other: Fire melts Metal, Water extinguishes Fire, Metal cuts Wood, and so on. This cycle can generate imbalances.

Flying Stars and their Impact

Flying Stars represent specific energies in your space, each linked to a specific element and characteristics. These energies can be positive or negative (see our article on annual flying stars).

During a Feng Shui assessment, we identify these influences through sophisticated calculations. The particular configurations of your space can sometimes amplify negative energies. The objective of the remedies is then to weaken or balance them, without trying to eliminate them completely (which is impossible).

But which remedies work best?

Feng Shui remedies are directly associated with the 5 elements. Contrary to popular belief, colors play a minimal role (less than 5% effectiveness). It is mainly the materials that influence the energies effectively and quickly. Below you will find a table of remedies that you can use in case of emergency :-)

Let's take an example: Managing Flying Star 5 in 2025

In 2025, star 5 (the most unfavorable, associated with the Earth element) will be positioned in the Northeast. It can cause illnesses, blockages, bad luck and accidents.

  • To weaken it : Introduce Metal (vases, sculptures, metal furniture) because excess Metal impoverishes the Earth.

  • To counter it : Add Wood (green plants, wooden furniture) because Wood retains Earth.

Caution: Avoid combining multiple remedies that could cancel each other out (for example, do not mix Metal and Wood, as they are in opposition).

Definitely avoid: Anything that reinforces the Earth element, such as pottery, ceramics, square shapes, crystals or earthy colors.

In conclusion

Feng Shui remedies are not universal. They depend on the precise analysis of your space and the interactions between the 5 elements. By applying targeted and thoughtful corrections, you can not only neutralize negative energies, but also energize positive ones, to create a balanced and harmonious living space.
